Why are you interested in the topic you are presenting?
Intellectual freedom is a core value and foundational principle of public library service, offering access to a diversity of information and ideas in welcoming, inclusive public spaces. In the 21st century, we are seeing more and more challenges to intellectual freedom in Canada and around the world. Public library leaders have an important role to play in defending freedom of speech and the other democratic values that are so critical to our collective futures.

What does “fearless” mean to you?
Sometimes when you are defending free speech, you find yourself in the uncomfortable position of defending individuals or groups whose viewpoints are offensive to many. However it is at those times that we must be fearless and most vigilant in protecting the rights of all.
