Why are you interested in the topic you are presenting?
It has always been a challenge to engage intermediate students in reading. Research shows and experience both indicate that reading interest drops off dramatically in the intermediate grades. Research also shows that reading fluency and being able to sustain reading for an extended period of time are key indicators of academic success in post secondary programs. It is essential that our students have the ability to read deeply for understanding. So, I have always been interested in how to engage those intermediate students with literature.
