As an early career librarian, I have found working in an ever changing environment both challenging and extremely educational. Where in other situations I would have been limited to one set of duties, I am now proficient in most operations and services the MAG Law Library carries out. In the last year, I have dabbled in web design, learned basic coding skills, and become an effective back-up reference librarian. In a larger more traditional library setting, I likely would have been limited to cataloging and circulation. This is all due to the fact that we are a small shop with fluctuating staffing and changing roles. Going forward, whether I remain at MAG for the rest of my career or move onto other opportunities, the experience I’ve gained in this position will be invaluable!

What does “fearless” mean to you?
To me, being fearless is the ability to roll with the punches. Get asked to take on Records Management for the Civil Law Division, while still accomplishing all the rest of your duties? Sure, why not! Teach the print-reliant counsel about the online version of the book that they’d used in the library 10 years ago? Any day. Step up to the plate on random projects that don’t quite fit anyone else’s skill set? Absolutely. With a fluctuating staff, ever changing circumstances and a digitally shifting collection, you have to be able to adapt, forge ahead and be fearless of the future.
