Why are you interested in the topic you are presenting?
I am presenting twice. I am passionate about leadership and the need for the library sector to pay attention to developing leaders who are visionary, collaborative and committed to relationship building at all levels. In thecase of the session I am doing for OLBA, I was asked to develop this session and I agreed because I think misunderstandings and unspoken expectations get in the way of the board and CEO sharing leadership of the library and working together to ensure the success of the library. I believe conversation can play a pivotal role in resolving such misunderstandings.
What does “fearless” mean to you?
Fearless to me means being willing to feel fear – and do it anyways. To find and act out of the courage to proceed with something that is scary because I believe it is important. It may have to do with personal values being threatened, or someone being mistreated, or something that needs to happen in the best interest of the library. In many cases, in the environment in which I work, it means being willing to be a catalyst for difficult, threatening conversations.
