Why are you interested in the topic you are presenting?
Throughout my professional career I have been curious about why occupations in both public and private spaces are gendered; why ships or boats are referred to as she; why changing tables for toddlers/infants only seem to be found in washrooms for women. I am interested in the topic of gendered communication and gendered spaces because our world is painted by more colours than blue and pink. Asking questions about the social and political significance to using the personal prefix Mx, decisions to ban transgendered people from serving in the American military, and the implementation of gender neutral washrooms helps us to understand how and why we interact we interact with each other and informs the ways that we view the world around us.

What does “fearless” mean to you?
Fearless or, more importantly, being fearless means being able to ask difficult or challenging questions, to stand up and be counted on behalf of those who cannot, and to know that while the path to making proactive change may be difficult you still go down the path for the sake of social justice, or simply to make a corner of your world more tolerable.
