When: Wednesday, Jan 31 | 10:30 am - 11:10 am

Location: MTCC - 203B

Days: Wednesday. Event Types: Session. Sectors: Academic. Subjects: Metadata.

Description:

With many libraries beginning preparations for a transition to linked data, it seems timely to compare approaches to moving legacy MARC data to BIBFRAME. This investigation is aimed at comparing two tools for converting MARC to bf:2.0 (LC MARC to bf:2.0 XSLT and Casalini SHARE VDE).

Through the analysis of these tools several topics will be explored to shed light on implications for discovery and workflow:
Comparison of data element conversion and impact for discovery
Impact of content standard on conversion efficacy (AACR vs. RDA)
Conversion results for various resource formats
URI enrichment pre/post conversion

Outcomes:
This session should build awareness about tools and workflows for converting MARC to bf: and shed light on the impact of factors associated with conversion on linked data implementation.
