Description:

Libraries are in a constant state of change, reacting to new technologies, demographics and business service challenges. What if we could find a way to employ staff members to be on the lookout for new and emerging technologies and trends that could be added into our services? How can we build staff confidence that they are bringing the best ideas forward?
Library staff are unique in that they are lifelong learners. As library leaders it is important that we nurture this quality so that they can help “future-proof” our services. But with the competing demands of public service, learning preferences, and budget allocations it can be difficult to set up a learning community and maintain high customer service standards. Peer Mentorship, mixed with gamification, is here to help.
Join us as we explore the troubles and triumphs of staff learning in  a blended model of online and peer mentorship learning.

Learning Outcomes
Understand the need to implement learning opportunities around technology for all staff;
Develop a familiarity with the SOLS Competency Index for Public Library Staff, specifically the Core Technology Competencies;
Understand the framework by which peer mentoring can benefit your library.
