Description:

The Sharing Economy is on the rise and engaging a new generation who value access over ownership. Public Libraries have always been part of the Sharing Economy however the Internet age presents various challenges to traditional library inventories as books, music and movies are commonly and easily accessible online. In this digital era, how do Libraries continue to be relevant community resources? Join us for an engaging discussion with the founders of the Recreation Library begun in 2013 and the Toronto Tool Library (founded in 2013), both of whom loan non-traditional items from snowshoes and tennis rackets to power tools and ladders.
Session will cover:

– How to Start a Library of Things

– Usage Statistics and feedback based on our experiences with tools and recreational equipment

– Opportunities and Risks

– Benefits and Challenges
