Description:

Mozilla office – 366 Adelaide Street West, Suite 500

This workshop is an introduction to the open educational resources (OERs) that are suitable for librarians to use within a club format with your patrons.  Mozilla is actively creating materials for web literacy oriented clubs, available at: https://teach.mozilla.org/clubs/curriculum/.  In this session, the facilitators will share tips for teaching like Mozilla, and introduce you to curriculum modules centered around reading, writing and participating online.  Participants in this session should be prepared to make, hack, discuss and have fun! Sample activities for the workshop include “Hack the News” and “Web Chef.”  Hack the News is an activity where participants use X-Ray Goggles, a browser plug-in, to inspect and alter HTML code on a news site.  Web Chef is an activity where participants learn to attribute openly licensed content. Participants in this session will gain practice with learning activities that they can bring back to their patrons through clubs within their own libraries.
