Description:

Mozilla is a global non-profit committed to the open internet. This session will share lessons learned from Hive Toronto’s experiences in incubating web literacy with public libraries in Ontario and globally. Hive Toronto is a digital literacy network, stewarded by Mozilla, with over 60 youth serving organizations as members. The membership base of Hive Toronto includes 6 public library systems.  Hive Toronto strives to catalyze web literacy learning opportunities for youth. This session will feature librarians and Hive members to share out some of the innovative programming co-designed by Mozilla, public libraries, and other community partners on topics such as maker culture, wearable technology, and animation.

We will also introduce Mozilla’s web literacy map as a foundation for building open educational resources (OERs) that you can leverage to incubate web literacy in your library. Mozilla web literacy initiatives are based around reading, writing and participating on the web.

Learning Outcomes
To explore strategies for incubating web literacy within your library;
To understand the partnerships between Mozilla and Ontario public libraries to build open educational resources for web literacy.
