Description:

Melvil Dewey purportedly said that he recruited a female workforce with high character for low cost, and hence, the profession of modern librarianship was born. The Toronto Public Library Workers Union (TPLWU) Local 4948 has challenged this historical paradigm and will be presenting their two films on precarious work.

Outcomes:

  • This will be followed by a roundtable discussion on the effect of this staffing model on today’s service delivery.
  • The Mississauga Public Library Workers and the Essex County Library Workers will share their recent experiences in taking on this issue in their workplaces.
