Description:

How do you grow innovation? The ability to innovate is more important than ever. Libraries must do more with less, position themselves as community hubs, support local economic growth and creativity, and generally go “all in.” Join Team Innovation as we recount our journey through establishing a culture of innovation at Markham Public Library. We’ll share some practical tips on how to develop and encourage risk-taking, fast failure, design thinking and creative problem solving (and why it’s important). We’ll talk about our large-scale projects within MPL’s innovation strategy: MPL in Space (utilizing fiction to discuss strategy), FailCamp, Creative Library, design thinking workshops, and the Learning & Innovation Staff Conference. Perhaps most importantly, we’ll discuss why failure is crucial to this whole process and how we learned to love it.

Outcomes:
– Replicate similar programs and initiatives within their own organizations to develop innovation
– Understand why failure is crucial to innovation and organizational agility
– Engage staff toward a culture of innovation
