Since the release of “So Much More: The Economic Impact of the Toronto Public Library on the City of Toronto” in December 2013, public libraries in Ontario have used this methodology in their libraries. These activities demonstrate the need for a contextual approach to library evaluation examining not only economic impact, but also the social, educational and cultural value of libraries. In 2016, Dr. Bill Irwin and Kimberly Silk invited a team of Canada’s leading experts in library evaluation, impact and advocacy to contribute to a book describing how libraries can implement evaluation to measure their impact in their own communities, including a series of case studies from Canadian libraries demonstrating how impact measures have made a difference in their communities.
