Traditional Information Literacy lab sessions often rely on a combination of powerpoint, live demonstration and hands-on exercises. This format does not lend itself to active participation or assessment of teaching effectiveness. The librarians at George Brown College use the Nearpod app to create interactive sessions to promote group discussion and peer assessment of IL skills. Nearpod allows us to receive real-time assessment and feedback on the effectiveness of teaching and learning throughout the session. Sessions are delivered in traditional computer labs as well as iPad classrooms. This year we hope to use Nearpod to deliver pre and post assessment to students to assess retention of IL skills. We also hope to trial sessions within a BYOD classroom. The use of Nearpod has allowed us to better engage students and gather meaningful feedback.
