Description:

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education is a growing approach to uncovering the curriculum through hands-on, experiential, inquiry-based learning, which fosters innovation, creativity and critical thinking. Hear from elementary school teacher-librarians and central support staff how STEM education is embraced in the library learning commons through: collaboration (team teaching) with colleagues; as well as the implementation of MakerSpaces, to engage students and support the curriculum. Teacher-librarians will highlight experiences: with collaboration in Math using iPads and other digital technology; with building capacity in using digital technology, through collaboration; as well as MakerSpaces, from elementary and middle school years, which can be modified and applied across grades K-8. Confirm/increase your understanding of how STEM learning connects with inquiry-based learning and the integration of digital tools. Take away ideas for collaboration and implementation.
