With dwindling base budgets becoming the latest trend in libraries, we will share strategies to assist in preparing for resource cancellations. We’ll go beyond data gathering methodologies to support cancellation decisions, to working with both internal and external stakeholders to get everyone on board. These don’t have to be negative interactions. Handled carefully, discussions around cancellations can lead to dialogue with user groups about advocating for the library and alternative modes of access to information, including open access. In fact, raising awareness of library issues can be a benefit of rolling out cancellation decisions. Turn your cancellations into conversations with our strategies for rationale development, communication methods for consensus building and tips for managing backlash.
