When: Wednesday, Jan 27 | 3:05 pm - 3:45 pm

Location: ICTC Humber

Days: Wednesday. Event Types: Session. Sectors: School Libraries. Subjects: GAFE and Maps.

Description:

Students creating knowledge together in a shared online environment is motivating and rewarding.  GAFE (Google Apps for Education) is making this type of collaboration easy.  Using Shared Google Maps (part of GAFE) for inquiry-based projects, allows students to collaboratively construct knowledge on one shared map.  This shared mapping space opens up exciting opportunities for Social Studies, Geography and History inquiries across grade levels.  In this session, participants will be walked through the steps to set-up, share and embed information on a shared map.  Examples of student maps will be shown, and time will also be given for brainstorming and discussing the potential of this tool for inquiry work in the Library Learning Commons.  To benefit fully from this session, it is preferred that participants already have a Google Drive set up and are familiar with GAFE basics.

Learning Outcomes
1.  How to make a map, share it with others, and embed information by linking to other Google Documents and Slides.
2.  Uncover the unlimited number of rich inquiry questions that can be investigated using Shared Google Maps.
