Description:

Join the OLA Canadian Materials Committee in a presentation of the 2015 “Best Bets” lists of Canadian literature for children and teens. We read all of the year’s books so you don’t have to! In a lively booktalk session, let our committee members educate, entertain and empower you to return to your libraries with the best Canadian books of the year!

Learning Outcomes
Awareness of Canadian content: Canadian authors and illustrators are easily missed or overlooked among all the titles released every year, and smaller, Canadian presses often can’t compete with the promotion that larger publishing houses offer.

The Best Bets Top Ten lists highlight the best of the best of Canada’s contributions to the book world.

Collection development: Books that make the Top Ten lists and Honorable Mentions are titles that have shown to be strong works that are considered the best for their intended audiences and are all great additions to libraries’ collections.

Readers’ advisory skills: In addition to learning about new titles, our presentation provides great examples of how to give amazing booktalks – an important readers’ advisory skill to have.
