Description:

In the 21st century, library services are evolving. Indigenous communities are working to bring their languages back to life. The time is opportune for libraries to join with Indigenous communities to collaborate on reaching their goal of revitalizing their languages. In this workshop we will present a variety of perspectives on language learning and how libraries can support Indigenous community initiatives, from language learners, teachers, programmers, and librarians. Community protocols, space, technology, programming, and collections are some of the factors that will be touched on. The goal is to help participants consider where their libraries stand in relation to their responsibilities towards Indigenous language revitalization. Discussion will entail ways that we can all work together.

Learning Outcomes
How libraries can build relationships and collaborate with language communities.
How libraries can provide support in the areas of space, technology, programming and collections.
