This engaging session will examine methods for revitalizing a special collection as part of a student-librarian internship program. Taking the Ontario Historical Education Collection, held in the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education Library, and the University of Toronto iSchool TALint internship program as a case study, this session will discuss challenges and opportunities of working with unique materials with an emphasis on collection management, accessibility, and outreach.
As a collaborative project between a student, a library technician, and a librarian, the session will also examine how the process of knowledge transfer, through training and mentorship, can have a productive impact on library collections.
Overall, this session will provide suggestions on how to encourage engagement with your librarys under-used collections, and provide strategies for meaningful training for junior staff, building relationships, and combating organizational memory loss.
