Description:

The GrandPals program was created by teachers of the Upper Grand District School Board. It focuses on creating a connection between students and seniors, while integrating cross-curricular, project-based learning. The program was adapted in the communities of Burlington and Acton/Huntsville. This session will describe the program as it unfolded in these communities and evaluate its merit through the lens of a teacher, librarian and seniors. The session will conclude by looking at resources for getting the program started in your own community. This will include looking at how to create needed connections, make necessary plans, overcome hurdles, and celebrate success.

Learning Outcomes
1. Participants will gain knowledge about the program and how it ties into the curriculum and community development.
2. Participants will be able to describe to their administrators the importance of intergenerational programming not only for their students but for our senior population.
3. Participants will learn how to adapt the program for their own school and community.
