Description:

In 2015 Adam Scott C.V.I & Intermediate school’s library had a major renovation and was revamped into a modern Learning Commons to support 21st century learning. This practical presentation through videos, interviews and images will show the process from the  beginning to the end and will highlight the major challenges and highlights of this journey. We will discuss what are the major differences between a traditional school library and a modern learning commons.
Learn how the learning commons becomes the hub of learning in the school and how we get teachers and educational specialists to become a team that supports all students through this vibrant space.
We will also discuss the integration of technology to support the learning commons including the use of chromebooks, tablets, cloud computing and special apps that support students in creating, inquiring, collaboration and presenting. See engagestudents.ca for more information.
Participants will:

  • increase their capacity with regards to changing a school library to a ‘learning commons’ layout
  • gain a better understanding of how a learning commons is the ‘central hub’ of a school community
  • heighten their knowledge of various library situations through a sharing module of the presentation among participants.
