Description:

How does a library motivate staff in professional development while increasing proficiency with library resources?  Why not try Digital Badges? Digital badges are the digital representation of an end goal, or competency from a lesson and are an excellent way of engaging the learner. Niagara College Libraries has recently implemented digital badges in a Database Literacy Training Program as an attempt at creating a flexible platform for individualized learning. The program creates learning pathways that incrementally allows staff to focus on proficiency and learner performance while creating opportunities for more in depth experience with our databases. The Database Literacy Training Program attempts to create tangible learning experiences that will translate into meaningful skills that can be passed onto students and faculty. This session will explore the triumphs and pitfalls of taking on a project aimed at rewarding professional competency! Join us as we share our insights and hindsights gained from taking on this project.
Participants will leave with:

An introduction to Digital Badging and the necessary platforms to deliver such rewards.

Some thoughts on creating learning pathways that translate into meaningful experiences for their users.

Insights regarding user experience with an in house training program.
