Description:

A culture of e-learning isn’t spawned overnight! Isolated e-learning projects, undertaken without a formalized structure and strategy in place, can potentailly become a mire of inconsistent, redundant, and poorly-prioritized content, negatively impacting both the experience of the end-user and the overarching culture of e-learning in a library.  At McMaster’s Health Sciences Library, a team of librarians was tasked with visualizing a sustainable future for e-learning within the organization.  Finding little evidence of formal strategies for e-learning at other academic libraries, the team created its own framework from scratch. This presentation describes the team’s project, reflecting on the successes and challenges of designing the e-learning framework and integrating it into the everyday practices of the library over a one-year pilot phase. The e-learning framework has since generated broader interest within the Faculty of Health Sciences, indicating the appeal of a formalized approach to e-learning beyond the library walls.
