Does inquiry-based learning improve student success? Three Teacher Leadership and Learning Program (TLLP) grants, three teacher teams, several workshops and one Rotman School of Management collaboration later, the question has become: how can a teacher librarian help teachers embrace inquiry in the classroom?
This hands-on workshop will identify difficulties with implementing inquiry-based learning in the classroom and explore practical ways to help teachers overcome these obstacles, which include teaching students how to develop questions and how to assess students engaged in inquiry. We will share strategies learned through a partnership with Rotman’s i-think initiative and participants will discover how TLLP funding was used to support our action research.
Participants will leave with a collection of strategies and resources which they can use to support teachers in their own schools.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will learn:
– How to use TLLP funding to support research in the school library commons;
– More about inquiry and how to support teachers in the classroom;
– About Rotman School of Management’s integrated thinking methods.
