When: Thursday, Jan 28 | 3:45 pm - 5:00 pm

Location: MTCC 206F

Days: Thursday. Event Types: Session. Sectors: Public Libraries. Subjects: Coding, Programming, and STEM.

Description:

It takes a community to raise a coder! With coding being identified as the new literacy, coding meetups, hackathons, and robotics classes are opportunities for community engagement, inter-generational programming, and literacy development.
Representatives from four library systems will talk about their experience with CoderDojo – a global computer programming movement for youth, which is finding its way into communities and libraries across Canada. What’s worked, what hasn’’t, and how local communities have, and are embracing coding programs at their library.
If you’re thinking of introducing coding as a program at your library, join this conversation!

By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

Understand and describe what CoderDojo is.
Identify resources to start a CoderDojo meetup at their local library.
Communicate the value of introducing coding programs at the library to Library Management, and the community.
Describe CoderDojo in the context of four library systems.
