Description:

Three-dimensional geospatial data visualization is the future of mapping and spatial analysis.  3D renderings are considered truer perspectives of reality, and lead to better communication, decision-making, and analyses. Traditional GIS services in libraries have focused almost exclusively on 2D support since adopting GIS tools over 20 years ago. But changes in technology and an explosion of open data are rendering past models of support in libraries less than complete. Library patrons are now demanding access to better 3D data, and support in developing visualizations in their research.  It is now time to expand the model for delivering data visualization support in libraries. This presentation will provide an introduction to 3D tools and data. An in-depth look at the influence of open data on libraries will also be examined. A demo of the capabilities of 3D visualzation will be provided, and the requirements for 3D data-modelling in libraries will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes
1 – influence of open data on libraries;
2 – developments of data visualization;
3 – Current trends in Data and GIS Libraries.
