Maureen Barry has served as the CEO of the Burlington Public Library since 2009. She has been with the Burlington Public Library system for 32 years where she has held a number of management positions in every public service department. Prior to working in Burlington Maureen was the first professional librarian hired by the Collingwood Public Library where she served as Children’s Librarian from 1980 to 1984. Her undergraduate degree is from University of Toronto and her MLS is from Western University.
Over the course of her career in Burlington Maureen has served as the Project Manager or Sponsor for five building projects. In 2013 Burlington implemented a significant organizational change that impacted on every position in the library system. She works closely with her City of Burlington colleagues on Master Plans, Cultural Strategy, Economic Vision and Innovation and Entrepreneurial Strategies. In 2015 she was recognized by the Burlington Economic Development Corporation with an Outstanding Leadership in Economic Development award in recognition of the important role the public library plays in economic vitality.
