Time travel, assassins, and…information literacy? Themed escape rooms have become popular outings for groups looking to test their teamwork and puzzle-solving skills while dodging cannibals or exploring ancient tombs. This session will showcase how escape rooms can be incorporated into information literacy workshops for undergraduate students.
After learning about resources and research skills through a traditional IL session, students are invited back to a themed room to hear a compelling tale and to solve clues, which will help them “escape” the room. Working in small groups, students must practice manipulating Boolean operators, finding information to assess a source’s authority, and using other IL skills to work through clues that relate to the room’s theme.
This session will explore how escape rooms have been integrated into IL sessions at Brescia University College and how attendees can create their own escape rooms.

– Construct clues which integrate IL skills.
