Description:

Design thinking creates experiences; it is collaborative, human-centred, and is an experimental method of offering services. It helps us design the library around our users rather than bending our users to the library. Design Thinking is gaining traction in the library sphere on all levels. Administrators and librarians are using it to optimize workflows, reconfigure spaces, and offer effective information literacy instruction. This session examines design thinking in libraries and explores how one academic library branch is using it to market services, reconfigure spaces and optimize student and faculty engagement. We will explore the tenements of design thinking as it relates to libraries, discuss changes that were made at the business library, and examine the results of these changes on our user groups. Part of this session will include a collaborative design thinking experience that will get you talking about how to market change in any library.

Outcomes:
– Understand what design thinking is.
– Learn how it can be used in a library setting.
– Participate in a collaborative design challenge.
