Description:

Love your job? Fabulous. Wish it were full-time? Don’t we all. But as the number of library job postings for permanent positions decreases and we jump from one short contract to another, how can we build our careers, take control of our finances, and remain enthusiastic about our work? Three presenters, a librarian with a lifetime of experience working on contract, a long-time freelance writer and money expert who is also an OLA-nominated children’s author, and a research and information professional who turned a series of contract jobs into a full-time profession, will share their knowledge and experience to demonstrate how thinking like a freelancer can put you in control of your career and maximize the benefits that contract employment has to offer.

Outcomes:
This session will include tips on building working relationships, leveraging professional organizations and certification body opportunities, financial planning, how to enjoy life — and thrive — as a freelancer, and navigating collective agreements. The work world is changing, and this session gives some of the tools – and confidence – you’ll need to make the most of these shifts.
