When: Friday, Feb 03 | 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm

Location: MTCC 104A

Days: Friday. Event Types: Session. Sectors: Public Libraries. Subjects: Readers' Advisory.

Description:

One of the unfortunate realities of readers’ services is that the books patrons ask for the most are the ones least likely to be on the shelf. Having a go-to arsenal of books with similar themes and appeals is a fool-proof way to ensure your patron doesn’t leave the library empty handed. This session will provide you with a lightning fast look at read-alikes (tried, tested and true!) for thirty of the most popular adult fiction titles currently in demand. Join Catherine, Chair of the Forest of Reading® Evergreen Committee, and Melanie, Chair of the OLA Readers’ Advisory Committee, in learning about the power of pre-preparing read-alikes to meet patron demands.

Outcomes:
– Learn about hot titles and authors in adult fiction and take with them a go-to selection of read-alikes to meet the needs of patrons seeking these elusive bestsellers.

– Receive a demonstration on how to give super speedy yet effective book talks.

– Discover what goes into selecting a suitable read-alike and how to apply this skill to future readers’ advisory conversations.
