Event Types: Session.

Description:

THIS SESSION HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN AT THE REQUEST OF THE SPEAKER.

Library and Archives Canada (LAC) has conducted web archiving under federal legislation to collect web resources of interest to Canadians since 2005. This presentation will provide an overview of LAC’s recent web archiving activities, including collections documenting the First World War Commemoration in Canada and the Rio 2016 Olympics. It will also provide an update on LAC’s 5th comprehensive Government of Canada domain crawl (which also collects its Official Publications), and our involvement in the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s Web Renewal Initiative, which will consolidate the federal web presence at Canada.ca by 2018. The session will feature a live demo of the re-launched Government of Canada Web Archive, showcase some technical advances, and will discuss plans and our vision for evolving program and service delivery, including access to LAC’s non-federal web archival holdings.

Outcomes:
This session would be of interest to web archiving practitioners, digital librarians and archivists, systems librarians, digital humanists and researchers that use the Web as primary source, or anyone considering or developing a web archiving program from technical, curation, or collection development perspectives.
