Meadowvale Library
Meadowvale Community Centre and Library is about connections: building and park, stone and water, fitness and literacy, Recreation and Library. The building is about creating a space for the community to use indoors and out for their minds and bodies. In relocating the Meadowvale Library to the site of a redeveloped Meadowvale Community Centre, Perkins + Will decide to only keep the existing pool tank and build everything else new. The architect’s concept was to integrate the building and Lake Aquitaine Park from a space and programming perspective and make it LEED silver building. Since opening in September 2016, Meadowvale Library has quickly become a destination place, not merely an archive. A bright, open space that features a makerspace with 3D printing, children’s computers, a youth room, group study space, quiet study room, lounge seating with window and fireplace views and an outdoor reading terrace, it has won rave reviews from customers old and new alike.
Woodlands Library
Woodlands Library, opened in June of 2014, was designed to resemble an open book, with its high ceilings and unique glass wall exterior featuring a silhouette of Mississauga’s ever-growing skyline. The building is 7200 square feet with automated heating, cooling, and lighting systems. It houses approximately 30,000 items, 2 quiet study rooms, 6 public computers, and program room which is accessible after hours. Self-checkout security features allow for an additional exit/entrance on the north side of the building, with access to an outdoor reading area and chess table. Known for its friendly and knowledgeable staff, this location is a welcoming, open, and lively place for customers.
Port Credit Library
Port Credit Library can be found on the picturesque shores of the Credit River and is the heart of Memorial Park in Mississauga. Port Credit residents have enjoyed a library presence in the area since 1896 when the first library was opened. The current building was opened in 1962, and the substantially renovated facility was reopened in 2011. Port Credit Library is bright, modern and has wonderful accents of mid-century modern orange furniture. In addition to a children’s area, a teen zone and open tables, library users enjoy a small group study space, two quiet study rooms and a large program room – where a wide range of programming opinions are offered to the community. Port Credit Library is known throughout the community for its comfortable seating, its connection with the barrel-vault ceilinged Port Credit Arena located across the park, and its warm and friendly staff.
