Description:

At most Canadian colleges and universities with a collective agreement in place, library staff prepare their dossiers for peer review in the promotion and tenure application process. Similar to faculty dossiers, this can be an onerous process for many of our colleagues. This is especially true for librarians new to the academic library setting. What supports do new librarians have available to them when submitting dossiers for promotion and/or tenure (or continuing appointment)? Who do librarians turn to for guidance and advice before submitting their files?

This presentation will review preliminary findings from a Canadian research study focused on supports for academic librarians in the promotions process.

Outcomes:
– Broader understanding of what supports new librarians need
– Ideas from other institutions for support mechanisms
– Insights from experienced librarians in the promotion and/or tenure process
