Description:

Meet the latest trend in library mobile services, the Mini Bookmobile! In recent years, many public libraries in North America have made the decision to add a Sprinter van to their fleet of vehicles used for mobile services. At a glance, this “mini bookmobile” is able to offer many of the same services as its larger relatives, yet there are many limitations to also consider before making this purchase.

The three public libraries in this panel discussion have experienced the process of designing and building a mini bookmobile and its service model. They will share their vehicle designs, make recommendations about vehicle features and analyze how the vehicle’s design affects the library services offered.

Outcomes:
– Understand the benefits and limitations of a mini bookmobile.
– Learn about the procurement process and vehicle features.
– Learn how to offer great library service within the limitations of a small vehicle.
