Description:

Explore how providing good Canadian literature can motivate and inspire Grade 7 and 8 students to rediscover the joy of reading. In a collaboration between an Elementary Special Assignment Teacher Librarian and a Student Success Teacher, the Forest of Reading Red Maple nominees were used by five teachers at four different HWDSB schools as both literature circle and independent reading choices. Technology was harnessed to develop a Professional Learning Community for the teachers while providing a platform for discussion between the students. Come and learn how these great resources inspired students to read!

Outcomes:
– Learn how to inspire middle school students to rediscover the joy of reading.
– Discover how technology was used to provide a platform for teachers to build a Professional Learning Community and provide authentic opportunities for students to discuss novels
