Description:

Have you ever considered volunteering to gain professional development? Have you ever wanted to volunteer in a library abroad or at an organization within your own community but not known where to start and felt overwhelmed by the process? Librarians possess many of the skills and resources sought by non-profit and volunteer organizations. Four librarians who have volunteered aboard and in their own communities will share their experiences. Find out some ways of getting involved and supporting causes that matter in your own community, such as a local Tool Library or a Community Choir.

Outcomes:
Learn strategies for building solid partnerships that benefit your library and your community. Going “all in” and getting involved with non-profits and charities helps you grow professionally and offers opportunities to build new skills and to become a “go-giver”. Social activism and librarianship go hand-in-hand. Consider the many opportunities to find personal fulfillment through their work.
