Description:

Providing excellent readers’ advisory can be a daunting task. In our information age, finding the time to read or stay current on collection trends and readers’ advisory is challenging. The Ontario Public Library Association (OPLA) Readers’ Advisory Committee has created a core competency on collection knowledge to assist library staff throughout the province with improving their provision of readers’ advisory. Members of the Committee will share their best practices and set the groundwork for a toolkit on collection knowledge skills in this interactive session.

Outcomes:
– Learn how an awareness of the depth and breadth of materials and resources in the library can increase confidence in readers’ advisory interactions
– Create a toolkit of resources and ideas that will inspire them in creating positive readers’ advisory discussion with customers and colleagues
– Discover how to advocate for readers’ advisory supports throughout your system
