When: Friday, Feb 03 | 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm

Location: MTCC 202C

Days: Friday. Event Types: Session. Sectors: School Libraries. Subjects: Innovation and Technology.

Description:

The design of the school library is changing. It is no longer a place to store books and technology. The library is truly becoming the learning commons area in schools. Knowing how to access the space for learning innovations is the best way to create and maintain engaged learners.

Hear how one school librarian tackled innovation during a three-school amalgamation, renovation, and location change. You will hear how she encouraged colleagues to develop rich digital learning experiences and used gradual release methods to move the learning from the library into the classrooms. You will also see how assessment was achieved in a variety of different projects – including coding and robotics (as a part of the Council of Ontario Directors of Education robotics initiative). Attendees will see how they can access, and then assess, student learning when technological understanding varies greatly within the classroom.

Outcomes:
– Innovating the library learning commons
– Supporting teachers through gradual release
– Accessing and assessing student learning
