Small First Nation Librarians truly do it all—on a budget. How? Through networking, partnerships, volunteers, and proposal writing. What do we do? A multitude of programs and services for all age groups and interests.
Take a short tour of Bkejwanong Library on beautiful Walpole Island via Slideshow and sit in on programs/services in action. You will enjoy points of interest in the community such as the outstanding Tecumseh Monument on the shores of the beautiful, blue St. Clair River, and visit with Elders, children, partners and volunteers. Presenters will also demonstrate traditional Ojibway drumming songs and share Ojibway legends.
Outcomes:
Participants with little or no knowledge of First Nations will gain an understanding and appreciation of First Nation culture, art, history, legends and language. They will also understand the importance of community networking and “buying-into” the vision—since limited resources spur on creativity—but wouldn’t additional resources alleviate and support the weight of big vision?
Others will enjoy visiting their southern colleague’s community, library, and culture.
