Description:

In September 2016, Barrie Public Library will be celebrating its first year as a Community-Led Library. Jumping in with both feet, Tracy and Chantale marked the path for Community-Led at BPL. This session will discuss the trials and rewards of working closely with community partners. We will share our methods of success measurement, stories and testimonials from our community, and successful community engagement and partnerships.

Get inspired by community engagement with the Downtown Business Association to collect library success business stories; a pop-up library initiative with Barrie Transit; a non-profit social impact measurement unconference led by Changemaker Georgian College students; a Georgian Library Commons partnership to engage undergraduates in the Government’s Culture Strategy Talk; a plan with local business organizations to offer academic level business courses at the library; and a hot chocolate trail and plans for an amazing 150th Canada and Branch 5th Anniversary Community Block Party!

Outcomes:
Participants will learn communication techniques for engaging with community groups, how to take risks with innovative community outreach and how to re-evaluate traditional program offering to meet their community’s needs.
