Undertaking the transition to a Library Learning Commons perspective and embracing the values of 21st Century learning may seem akin to climbing Mt Everest. The challenges often seem insurmountable!
Encouraging staff and administration to shift pedagogical perspectives at the same rate that the environment is changing can seem near impossible at times. This session will offer practical suggestions and solutions detailing how to make use of the Leading Learning (2014) and Together for Learning (2010) documents to support student achievement through the transition to Library Learning Commons.
Within this evolving environment, Makerspaces are designed to engineer and drive creativity for future-oriented learning and teaching throughout the entire school. There will be a focus during the session on collaboration, Makerspace and the virtual environment of e-books that help support a successful Learning Commons. Together, we can climb this mountain!
Outcomes:
Participants in this session will gain in depth knowledge about how the many dimensions of a Library Learning Commons embrace and meet the needs of 21st century learners.
Experienced presenters will discuss strategies and pathways for transitioning as a board or school into a Learning Commons space that goes beyond environment and furniture, to collaboration and student learning.
Participants will come to understand how the e-reading experience transforms the way that students learn through utilizing popular highlights pulling the instruction away from the teacher and shifting the responsibility to the student.
Participants will appreciate how valuing student voice can help to create a deeper understanding of a Makerspace.
